The role
As Design Director, you’ll sit at the intersection of craft, strategy, and technology – leading ambitious projects for global brands, scaleups, and category challengers. You’ll play a key role in both winning and delivering work. That means partnering with clients at a strategic level, identifying new opportunities, and guiding multidisciplinary teams from early concept to world-class execution.
The work spans everything from digital products and services to full ecosystems – websites, apps, and future-facing experiences where hardware and software meet. This is as much a leadership role as it is a creative one. You’ll help shape how Above works, how teams collaborate, and how design evolves in an AI-driven world.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and shape cutting-edge digital design projects from concept to delivery
- Act as a strategic partner to clients, driving both vision and business impact
- Identify and unlock new commercial opportunities
- Elevate the creative standard and craft across projects and teams
- Build, mentor, and inspire high-performing multidisciplinary teams
- Drive innovation in workflows, especially leveraging AI in design processes
- Translate emerging tech into real design value for teams and clients alike
Who you are:
- You’re a senior design leader with a strong point of view and the ability to bring others with you
- +10 years in design, ideally within agency or fast-paced environments
- A strong track record of leading digital product or experience design
- Comfortable operating across design, tech, and business
- Experienced in client leadership and storytelling
- Commercially minded, with experience selling and shaping projects
- A natural leader who builds trust, clarity, and creative confidence
- Deep appreciation for craft, aesthetics, and user-centered thinking
- Curious and hands-on when it comes to AI and emerging tools
- Collaborative, humble, and energized by working with others
